Our History

Jeff Lulla, Founder & President

Burbank Gymnastics Center opened for business in January of 1985. After only 6 months there were already 300 students enrolled in the program and it’s been going strong ever since! In 1988, Burbank Gymnastics Center was doing so well, it was time to expand.  So, another gymnastics center was opened in the Santa Clarita Valley and both facilities would now be called Fun & Fit Gymnastics Centers.   In January of 2008 a third gym called Imagymnation Gymnastics in Simi Valley was acquired, improved and remodeled, and sold in 2012.

What makes Fun & Fit Gymnastics unique is our completely non-competitive philosophy.  At Fun & Fit, removing competition means more than just not having competitive teams.  It means winning is defined as “PERSONAL BEST”, and children are never compared to each other, only to their past best performance.

The Fun & Fit Gymnastics Centers hold classes for children beginning at 5 months, for boys and girls of all ages, tumbling and cheer classes, private lessons, special events, Summer and Holiday Camps, and are well known for hosting incredible Private Birthday Parties for kids.  Our Demo Teams perform at local schools educating and entertaining students about fitness, nutrition and, of course, gymnastics.  They also perform in the community helping support non-profit organizations with their events, and many have participated in General Gymnastics, performing at Disneyland, Six Flags Magic Mountain, and in parades and other civic events.

OUR INSTRUCTORS  (Read more about our staff by selecting "Our Staff" under "About Us").

The instructors at Fun & Fit are professional experts hired first for their integrity as well as their outstanding abilities in teaching young children in a positive and patient manner and secondly for their knowledge and expertise in gymnastics.  Several of our staff members hold degrees in Child Development, Kinesiology or Education.  In addition, our TNT (Teacher in Training) Scholarship Opportunity Mentoring Program prepares select students beginning at 12 years of age for a teaching job when they reach the age of 16.  Some of our most popular and talented teachers grew up in our organization.

Once hired, our instructors are trained using the internationally recognized subscription based curriculum system we developed and began licensing to hundreds of gymnastics clubs internationally in 1991.  The Fun & Fit Curriculum Poster Reward System and instructor training DVDs helped set a standard for teaching safely using progressions to deconstruct skills into achievable steps.

In 2013 Jeff Lulla partnered with Smart Moves, a New Zealand based company that developed an online teaching platform, installed the Fun & Fit curriculum plus another 1000 additional skills, games, drills and progressions for teaching gymnastics, and added 250 sequential lesson plans for teaching children ages 3 to 18.  The Smart Moves Online Teaching System for gymnastics was launched in August of 2013 at the USA Gymnastics National Congress.   This subscription based service instantly provides gymnastics professionals everywhere the state of the art in instructor training and lesson planning and is already embraced by gymnastics clubs and governing bodies as well as equipment manufacturers as a new standard for gymnastics education.   To learn more visit: https://3rdlevelconsulting.com/smart-moves/funandfit-gymnastics/
